At the age of nine, the native of Avilés, Spain, joined the “Polyphonic Choir of Aviles” and later the “Choir of the Royal Superior Conservatory of Music of Madrid,” the “Orfeon de Castilla” and “Narval Octet”, while finishing his studies at the Conservatory.
Before dedicating himself professionally to music, he completed studies of Geology and Engineering. Honored with first prize at the first internacional competition “Iberian Voices” as best interpreter of “Spanish Music”, as well as the best male voice in the International Competition of “Toti dal Monte” in 2005, as well as the Operalia prize in 2007.
Alter meeting Alfredo Kraus, who accepted him as his protege, he studied with Kraus until the maestro’s death. He has also studied with Miguel Barrosa, Pedro Lavirgen, Renata Scotto, Julia Hamari, Ileana Cotrubas, Jaime Aragall, Anna Maria Pizzoli, Dennos O’Neill, and Ana Luisa Chova.
He participated in the Lyric Gala “Young Voices” of La Solana (Royal City) and in diverse concerts of opera and lieder at the Lazaro Galdian Foundation, as well as the Nacional Auditórium of Music in Madrid, the Cantabria House of Madrid, French Institute of Madrid, “El Monte” Foundation (Huelva & Sevilla), San Juan Bautista Collegiate y Jovellanos Theater in Gijón; on various occasions he participated in Jaén and Menoría, and in a concert dedicated to Miguel Fleta in Ávila. In 1998, he performed in a Grand Lyric Gala with Alfredo Kraus, inaugurating the auditórium which would posthumously take Kraus’ name.
Organized by the foundation “Ramón Areces,” he sang in concert at the Nacional Auditórium of Music under the baton of Enrique García Asensio. After his mentor’s death, Gabaldón dedicated a concert “in memoriam” at Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, which was to be repeated in the auditorium Alfredo Kraus, in the same city, in addition to various recitals for the “Orden del Cachorro Canario.”
Invited by conductor Alberto Zedda, Gabaldon participated in the “Rossini Academy,” interpreting in concert version Lindero from “The Italian in Algiers” in Pesaro, Italy; also in concert version, he performed the role of Arturo in I Puritani, at the Liceum of Barcelona.
He premiered two works of componer Juan Carlos Casimiro, “Danza Prima” and “Somiedo,” at the Jovellanos Theater in Gijón, Spain. Gabaldon made his debut in the Theater of Zarzuela of Madrid with “Agua, azucarillos y aguardiente” (Serafín) and “Los Claveles” (Don Fernando). “Luis Fernanda” (Javier) in Córdoba, Spain; Stabat Mater of Haydn (Euskalduna Palace), “Elisir d’amore” (Nemorino) in Baracaldo and the Arriaga Theater of Bilbao. “Don Pasquale” (Ernesto) in the Romea de Murcia Theater of Madrid, Basilio in “Le Nozze di Figaro” in the Teatro Comunale of Treviso.
Gabaldon later performed in recitals, including prestigious music festivals such as the Nits d’Opera in Ibiza, Conciertos de la Granja in san Ildefonso, and the Spanish Cultural Center in Coral Gables, FL, as well as the Hotel Deauville in Miami Beach, Florida, American British Academy in Mascate (Omán).
In May of 2006, in the spirit of the celebrations of Mozart, Gabaldon offers a recital in the Nacional Auditorium of Madrid, accompanied by the Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by P. Osa. More recently, he made his debut with the Miami Lyric Opera with Nemorino in “L’elisir d’amore” and later presented Arturo in “I Puritani” with the same company, with much success and to critical acclaim. He was officially presented with the key to the county of Miami-Dade, in the name of the mayor, in a ceremony presided by the ambassador.
Gabaldon made his debut in Fidenza as Fenton in Falstaff in November of 2007, and later presented a recital in Hong Kong at the “Radio Televisión of Hong Kong” and “City University Theater”In December of 2007,
